Diversity Week Presentations Poster

The Celebrate Diversity Week poster was designed to advertise upcoming presentations during the week of October 20-24, 2008 on campus at Heartland Community College. The poster shows two opposing football helmets, one blue with the Democrat party logo and one red with the Republican part logo with the title 'Politics is NOT a spectator sport'. The weeks event details are shown in the lower half of the poster design along with a reminder pinback button graphic I designed to vote on Election Day of November 4.

In 2008 I was approached by members of the Diversity Team at Heartland Community College seeking a poster design for a week of panel presentations on the topics of politics and elections. That committee required an 11x17 inch poster design to advertise these presentation events.

With the catch phrase "Politics in NOT a Spectator Sport" as my starting place I decided to include the dueling football helmets into the design as the main focal point. I found the appropriate football helmet using my iStock Photo account, downloaded and modified the image in Adobe Photoshop CS3 to include the Democrat and Republican political party logos placed onto each helmet. I also applied the appropriate colors to the The helmets in Photoshop CS3. I also designed the pinback button graphic showing the Election Day text in Photoshop CS3 as a 3-dimensional looking button graphic.
I brought those graphic assets into the Adobe Illustrator CS3 layout and chose the typefaces, colors and additional graphic elements. The finished design was then printed in color and distributed throughout the campus.
In need of a way to advertise these speaking events, this print poster design served the purpose for the Diversity Week event presentations in the Fall 2008. These speaking events were well attended throughout that week on campus.
